Fic: ‘The boots you want.’
Title: The boots you want.
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Before The Eleventh Hour, season 5.
Summary: Amelia spots something she’d love.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

I like writing for Amelia and this was too good an opportunity to resist.

Standing in the store, surrounded by shoes, she shoves her hands in her pockets and looks around. There’s Aunt Sharon trying some shoes on, there’s a shop assistant helping her and here she is waiting for her aunt. To while away the time, she walks down the aisles between Converse sneakers and shoes that look like an ad she’s seen in one of Aunt Sharon’s fashion magazines. What were they called?

That’s right. Louboutin.

Why did people call those shoes pumps? They didn’t do anything but look stupid, she decides. Shaking her head, she turns the corner and then stops, staring at the boots before her.

One step forward follows another until her nose is almost touching the pair of red wellies. A cough behind her brings her back to where she is and she looks up at the shop assistant and, shamefacedly, smiles.

“Is there something I can help you with, dear?”

She looks from the red boots to the shop assistant and shakes her head. “No,” she mutters before she turns back the way she’d come. She knows aunt Sharon would say no and she sticks her hands back in her pockets. She almost kicks a shoebox on the ground in front of her but she avoids it.

They were such nice boots, too.

She kicks the next shoebox on the ground she sees.

She doesn’t notice the extra bag her Aunt Sharon is carrying as they leave the shop. On the walk back to their house, she stares at her feet, frowning. As they enter the house, she starts walking up the stairs.

“Amelia!” Aunt Sharon stands at the bottom of the stairs. “Amelia!

Amelia stops, half-turning on the stairs.

“Aren’t you forgetting something?”

She frowns; Sharon holds up the extra bag. Slowly, Amelia descends the steps, her hand on the railing; what could Aunt Sharon mean, she wonders. Forgotten what?

She stops on the third step from the bottom and Sharon hands her the bag. She peers inside the bag and a gigantic grin forms. “Oh, thank you Aunt Sharon!” She jumps from the stair and almost knocks her aunt to the floor under the sudden hug she gives.

“Just don’t forget to use them!” Sharon grumbles as she straightens and walks into the kitchen. Picking up the dropped bag, Amelia races upstairs and empties it on her bed. Red wellington boots fall onto the quilt and she beams happily at the tumbled boots on her bed for a moment before sitting next to them, kicking her shoes off and pulling them on.
