Fic: ‘He knows he did right.’
Title: He knows he did right.
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia (movie)
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe: just after Lucy’s returned to this world (the first time).
Summary: He knows he did the right thing.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

Watching this (well, part of it) on television last night brought these words to mind!

With a poker, he stirs the ashes of the cold slumbering fire; small licks of flame reach up but settle back within their pillow of ashes. He drops the poker and reaches for the tinder box he keeps on the mantle; once in hand, he sits and stares at the ashes.

The tinder box falls from a suddenly nerveless hand.

He had done the right thing. Who cares if the White Witch discovers what he had done, letting the human go?

He knows he had done the right thing, releasing Lucy Pevensie, but his heart stirs within, fear stirring like the flames had on the ashes. He takes a deep breath and releases it slowly.

“Everything will be all right,” he tells himself and jumps at the sound of his voice aloud. He picks up the fallen tinder box, setting it in his lap while he reaches for the poker and sets it back where it belongs before he reaches for a split log from his pile of firewood and sets it in the hushed fireplace.

He half-expects, his hand trembling as he puts the wood down, for the Lion to roar again.
