Fic: ‘Waiting alone.’
Title: Waiting alone.
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During The Girl Who Waited, season 6.
Summary: She waits for them to come.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This has been something stuck in a corner of my mind since I saw the episode. I finally wrote it down, to get it unstuck.

All characters contained herein are the intellectual property of the BBC & Steven Moffat; I am not affiliated with nor endorsed by them.

She sits in a corner, hidden underneath the temporal engines; she can hear their constant motion, see the white smoke channelled through the vents. The handbots don’t know she’s here.

Okay. So she waits. She knows how to wait. It’s not as though she doesn’t know the Doctor and Rory will come for her.

Rory always comes. He won’t let her be here for any longer than she has to be.

It’s later that the tears fall.

She stands, leaning against the wall, and her face falls into her hand. Why haven’t they come? Why hasn’t Rory come?

Oh God. What if they’ve left her?

Her knees weaken and she slides down the wall, drawing her knees up and resting her forehead on them. Rory, she hiccups, wouldn’t have left. He’d search every timestream on this planet for her if he had to.

She sobs into her knees; her arms have encircled her legs and she hugs them to her.

“Please, Rory,” she begs into the empty air, “come soon. I don’t know how long I can bear it.”

She can’t sit here all day, she decides, but she can’t bring herself to move. She’s left that sign for the Doctor and he’ll be here soon.

Rory will be sooner.

She stays where she is, hidden by the temporal engines, hugging her legs and resting her forehead on her knees. Closing her eyes, she breathes out; a long, slow breath. Maybe, when she opens her eyes, Rory will be at her side or, better yet, holding her tightly to him and telling her he’s so very glad to see her.

With deep breaths, she lulls herself to sleep.

When she wakes up, she is alone.

Rory hasn’t come.
