Fic: ‘At the end of his day.’
Title: At the end of his day.
Fandom: Lord of the Rings (movies).
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During events in Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King.
Summary: He admits, finally, to his fatigue.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This small scene has been in mind for a long while but slowly forgotten; writing Helping the best she can brought it very vividly back.

He sits beside the bandaged woman, steam flowing into the air as he wrings the cloth over the bowl; water trickles over the back of his hand, between his fingers. With his other hand, he carefully peels the bandages from her wrist and arm. Silently, he softly presses the cloth to the wrist struck numb. As the cloth moves along her skin, he murmurs words of healing.

Grey and muted, the air hangs heavy in the Halls when he finally lays the cloth in the bowl and stands, moving to the door. Her brother waits anxiously outside.

“She will recover,” he states tiredly.

Her brother reaches a hand to the other’s shoulder. “Are you well?”

He smiles wanly. “Merely tired,” he confesses. “Go, see your sister!”

No further words of prompting are needed as the new King departs, to hurry and sit by his sister’s side.
