Fic: ‘Choking on darkness.’
Title: Choking on darkness.
Fandom: Lord of the Rings (movies).
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During events in Lord of the Rings.
Summary: Each day, Éowyn strives and each day she fails.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

The imagery within this was very strong and bugged me until I wrote it.

All characters contained herein are the intellectual property of JRR Tolkien, the Tolkien Estate and the Tolkien Trust & Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens (their interpretations); I am not affiliated with nor endorsed by them.

Against the smoke-stained walls and faded banners, her dress glistens; snow on autumnal darkened fields. Within the torch-light, her hair is sunlight. Steady and strong, she stands beside her uncle, a hand upon his shoulder.

She pretends not to notice the constant lust within the face of her uncle’s now closest counsellor. She pretends not to notice the hoar-frost now claiming the once-vibrant man. She pretends not to see the dimming of the once-great hall. Each day, her uncle sinks further into the wormtongue’s spell. Each day, she seeks to counter with quiet constancy.

Each day, she chokes on darkness.

This scene was very firmly in mind until I wrote it, trying to perfect it until it was written to the very exacting standards of what I had in mind.

I don't know whether to be impressed or repulsed by the imagery.

Thank you. I could visualise this so strongly as I wrote that it seemed to write itself.
