Fic: ‘The moment she says yes.’
Title: The moment she says yes.
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During season 5, episode 1: The Eleventh Hour (modern series)
Summary: The Doctor returns and Amelia says yes.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

After She waits and It all fades, I had to write a moment where he comes back and she agrees to travel with him.

Spoken dialogue comes from The Eleventh Hour.

The night before her wedding, she can’t sleep. She lies in bed with her eyes closed but sleep evades. Sleep, she decides, is definitely not her friend. Not tonight, anyway. Pulling the covers up, she lies still. Maybe if she convinced her body she was asleep, maybe her mind would follow. Had to be worth a shot, didn’t it?

As her eyes close again, she hears a familiar noise. She’s heard it three times in her life so far but it could be nothing other than that magic blue box with a swimming pool in the library. She throws aside the covers and runs to the window, a hand on the glass as she peers into the dark garden; the only light in her room comes from the fairy lights dangling in the bedstead above her pillow and a lamp beside the bed.

Could she have been mistaken? She almost presses her nose against the glass before she sees it. Sees that blue box that is only as blue as it alone can be.

She runs downstairs, lights on and door left unlocked as she closes it behind her. Never mind the nightie or that she barely knows him. It’s him, her Raggedy Doctor. He’s returned.

He talks, something about running to the moon and back. She doesn’t hear it; it’s unintelligible babble to her ears. He talks and she can’t believe her eyes just as she almost disbelieved her ears. He’s back. He said he’d come back.

Before he’d said he’d only be five minutes and it’d been twelve years. Last time, he’d just taken off without a word and that had been two years ago.

“It’s you,” she says, stunned at the sight of the not-so-Raggedy Doctor and his blue box. An impossible blue box with engines and a swimming pool in the library and his stupid bowtie; someone should tell him bowties are not cool. They’re stupid and decidedly not modern and he’s back.

He’d been right. He’d not been people; he’d come back. Longer than five minutes; she’s waited years. But she’d trusted him, a trust lost and then returned when he’d caught Prisoner Zero and was slowly eroding because she hadn’t known when he’d be back. If he’d be back.

And now ...

“You came back,” she continues, still unable to believe her eyes. Should she trust him again? Can she trust him again?

They talk, he clicks his fingers and when she steps inside that blue box, that impossible blue box, she knows the trust thought lost and found and eroded and grown up ... has never gone away but had hidden until this moment.

This impossible magical moment when she agrees in her heart and doesn’t let him know she’s said yes.

-hug.- Thank you very much; I've been enjoying writing them; it can be challenging with the wibbly-wobbly aspects but that makes it even more fun!

I love your insight into Amy and her raggedy Doctor. I have this hankering to rewatch series 5 now... and series 6 up to date.
