Fic: ‘To prevent missteps.’
Title: To prevent missteps.
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Between tPM & AotC.
Summary: He is to prevent political mis-steps.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

If this seems similar to Her first day, it is. The point with this was to show how much was the same, and yet not, all at once.

Hushed voices distinguish knots of dignitaries from those engaged in open discussion. Someone cracks an ill-conceived joke and is stared down by their companions. Aides vary, between dignified steps just behind their Senators or scurrying alongside to keep pace with fast-speaking.

On the edge, she stands. In this moment, she feels overwhelmed although this doesn’t show in her expression. Two hooded Handmaidens stands behind her, both a half-step behind. She appreciates their nearness in this particular hive of activity.

She is aware of the eyes upon her as she walks toward the Senate chamber, aware of the conversation buzzing. She is the former Queen of Naboo; many present saw her when she addressed the Senate during the Trade Federation. Now its Senator, they will watch her now.

Carefully.

She steps to one side as the Trade Federation representative walks past.

“Senator Amidala.” The tall man smiles warmly as he steps through the crowd. “Would you mind if I sat with you today?” He extends a hand which she accepts; a wry smile curves her lips.

“Are you to ensure I do not misstep?”

He returns her smile, his amusement hidden within the depths of his dark eyes; she can see it easily, standing this close. “Consider a gesture of friendship.”

“In that case, I would be delighted, Senator Organa.”

They walk together to the chamber, he sitting just behind, on the left. The Chancellor, when he calls the session to order, notes this seating arrangement with a quiet smile.

I really do love these Senate stories. Mainly because I love Bail; or at least the way you write him.

Thank you. It's always my hope to portray him as believable.
