Surprising her had been easy; she’d stood on the balcony, watching the lake, when he had appeared. She’d greeted him and, quietly shy, she’d shown him her home, pointing out where she and Sola had swum during school retreat, telling him the history of the villa. Being on Naboo didn’t hurt as much as he’d thought, he realises. But, he concludes, they weren’t in Theed and he’d bypassed the city on his way to find her.

It is the evening, he decides, he likes best. Curled under a blanket beside him, her hair, free and drying, splashes over his arm in the moonlight. He reaches down, tucking a curl behind her ear and she smiles in her sleep. He holds her close and looks up at the stars. Quite often, he knows, there isn’t time to appreciate their simple, elegant beauty; strategies and plans are made and they become points on a map.

Here, they feel closer. If he reaches up, he feels, he could touch them. He catches himself before he releases the woman asleep beside him, to reach into the sky. He chuckles quietly and is glad for the blanket underneath them; the cool, white sand of the island beach would make it difficult to explain where he’d been during his retreat. He kisses her forehead and she blinks sleepily, awaking under the tender touch.

“I didn’t realise how tired I was,” she quietly laughs. “I hope you weren’t inconvenienced by my falling asleep.”

“Padmé,” he gently admonishes, “you are not on Coruscant now and I was fine.” He brushes her cheek with a crooked finger. “I could not be in better company, asleep or not.” By the moon, he can see her cheeks heat and he feels it against his skin. “Why don’t,” he suggests, “you tell me about the stars?”

*sighs* Oh my. You just have such a lovely, visual way of writing. You really bring the reader in. A beautiful and romantic piece!

You really bring the reader in.
That's always my hope but I feel I always fall short of doing just that. It's good to know that I do manage it!

You just have such a lovely, visual way of writing.
Thank you!
