Fic: ‘What about breakfast?’
Title: What about breakfast?
Fandom: Lord of the Rings (movies).
Rating: (G)
Time Period: the Fellowship of the Ring: on the way to Rivendell, after Bree.
Summary: It wasn’t day break, let alone dawn, yet!

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

In the early stages of their journey, I couldn’t imagine Pippin being a morning person!

Mumbling to himself, he rolled over, pulling the blanket tighter about himself as he did.

“Pip!” Merry hissed and nudged his cousin with a foot. “It’s time to get up Pip!”

Pippin peered at the sky. “Strider said day break and it’s not even dawn yet!”

Pippin curled himself more securely in the blanket.

Abruptly, he felt himself rolling out of his blanket and landed with an oompf!. Sitting up, he glowered until he saw his blanket dangling above two booted feet. His gaze rose until it met that of the Ranger.

“It is day break, Master Took.” The Ranger crouched beside Pippin. “See the horizon just beyond?”

Pippin slowly nodded.

“And the light quietly breaking over it?”

“That would be the dawn, Master Took. And you’ve slept later than you ought.” He handed Pippin his blanket. “We need to keep away from the Road,” he instructed as he rose and stepped away from Pippin to Sam.

Pippin watched him walk away and began to roll his blanket. “Will we have time for breakfast?”

“We’ve had breakfast, Pip.”

“What about me?”

An apple flew through the air and smacked Pippin right atop his head and fell into his lap. “I think that’s your breakfast, Pip.”

Pippin, rubbing his head with one hand, reached into his lap and withdrew the apple. “It’ll have to do until second breakfast.”

“I think,” offered Merry as he gave the second apple to his cousin, “that’s second breakfast, Pip.”

Oh Pip :) I love Hobbits, always thinking with their stomachs... well, at least in Pip's case!

I'm sure later in the day even Merry will be muttering about luncheon and elevensies!

*mad laughter* Pippin really wasn't catching a break with those early days! Between lack of food and lack of sleep he just wasn't a happy hobbit!

He was probably happy at Rivendell, especially once Frodo had woken.
