Each year, the same day every time, a solitary light rose coloured bloom arrived at the Jedi Temple, tri-petaled with a single-stemmed stamen rising gracefully from each petal. Only one Jedi within the Temple knew whom they were from and on what day it arrived and endured teasing from his padawan on that day.

He kept the head of one flower and planted it in one of the gardens in the lower levels of the Temple and often visited it after one of the arguments or serious talks he had with his padawan, its calming properties always soothing ruffled nerves. Then one day, he caught sight of the news and the new Senator of the Chommell Sector.

Without fanfare, he arrived for an appointment at her quarters after enquiries at the embassy had led him there. He waited in the sitting room, his hands in his sleeves with arms folded.

“Obi-Wan!” She warmly greeted and crossed the room, a kiss on his cheek. Her hands remained on his upper arms. “What brings you to see me? How is Anakin?” She waved to a couch behind him and he sat opposite her.

“He is well and I have come to thank you for the thoughtful gift.”

She discreetly signalled to the Captain; Typho nodded, a slight gesture, and he, with the security agents and Handmaidens, withdrew from the room. “He is remembered on Naboo,” she spoke softly, respect evident in every word. “As are yours and Anakin’s deeds.”

“I must ask you cease in the sending of the remembrance.” Inwardly, he marvelled at how she had grown, from girl to woman. The promise he had seen then was now fulfilled. “There is no need of it.”

“If you insist,” she acquiesced. “I ...”

Obi-Wan bowed his head. “Until the next time our paths cross, m’lady.” He stood, his hands in his sleeves and arms crossed once more.

She rose, also, and stepped closer. Unconsciously, he leaned toward her. She stood on tiptoe, her hair in its elaborate headdress tickled his cheek as her lips brushed lightly against his, lingering a few moments until she stepped back. He raised an eyebrow; her cheeks lightly flushed. “Until then, Master Kenobi,” she gestured to the door and walked alongside until it was reached. It slid open.

He walked through it; the door slid shut. Her fingers brushed her lips and she smiled, a half-curve of the lips. A Handmaiden rushed in, ready to accommodate her mistress’ desires. “M’lady?”

She half-turned, meeting the brown eyes of her Handmaiden. “’t’was merely a chance,” she murmured.

The Handmaiden lowered her eyes in acknowledgement of the response.

The next time a certain young Senator asked, the Senator of the Chommell Sector accepted his invitation, unknowing the memory of that chance stayed at the back of a mind that knew it shouldn’t be there.

What a teaser... :)
What fun would there be without teasing? ;P

I loved the "remembrance" part. So very touching. :D
Thank you! That was, oddly, one of my favourite parts to write in this.

That's very lovely to know; that's one of my favourite lines of dialogue in this story.

Again, stunning. You write these two perfectly ♥ I love her comment about "merely a chance" :)

Thanks! I'm never certain how well I write the pair of them when they're acting upon impulses or reacting to actions that you never see them act upon or react to in the films.

I loved this one. It is such a natural progression from the story that came before. They are older, but still the same in many ways. Padme's initiation of the physical closeness throughout is very reminiscent of her earlier hand squeeze, a more grown-up version. I love that the flowers from her comfort him as they did before, even if he did as her to stop sending them.

Nicely done! :D

Ohthankgoodness! That's been one of my concerns for this particular story.

I love that the flowers from her comfort him as they did before, even if he did as her to stop sending them.
You know from this that those flowers will play a part in the on-going story, even if it is a small role.

Nicely done! :D
Thank you! This is the story I was concerned about the most from this series.
