Summary: A simple gift.

Warmth stretched, from flame to skin, but the watchers stood out of its reach. All eyes were forward, watching the body consumed by the fire, which burned steady as though it knew the event, the ceremony, of which it was part.

Anakin stood tall, his tears held in an attempt to be brave. Obi-Wan, hidden by the outer robe, rested his hand on the boy’s shoulder.

Eyes forward, Padmé felt the tension in the young man beside her. This man before them had been father and mentor, brother and friend, to the newly Knighted Jedi; he would keenly feel the loss yet would he be allowed to show it, to feel it?

As the Jedi filed from the Temple, the young Queen reached forward before the young Knight had time to step away; her hand snared his. A brief squeeze of the fingers before his hand was released. Startled, he discreetly glanced to the young Queen; she bowed her head. He followed the other Jedi, Anakin before him; he guided the young boy with gentle hands upon his shoulders.

Later, when entering the room given him, he noticed a graceful turquoise blown vase filled with simple, light-rose tri-petaled blooms, a single-stemmed stamen delicately rising from each petal. His shoulders slumped as he breathed deeply in and he sat on the edge of the bed. Another deep breath and he exhaled, slowly. Calm swept over him. He looked again at the vase and its flowers.

A gift, he knew, from the Queen of Naboo.

Hi. Just popping in to say I liked your description of that scene, and how Padme sensed that Obi-Wan, as a Jedi, might be hurting but not be able to show it. Nice work :-)

Thank you; it’s always appreciated as I’m never quite certain I’m actually capturing moments or characters well!

Good luck with that! I know how horrendous it can be to catch up with it, especially if it's busy!

Thank you! It felt right that she would reach out in some way to him, during this time.

Young Jedi!Obi-Wan/Young Queen!Padme...oh how I love stories that deal with them from the start. That quick hand-squeeze, giving him both comfort and strength. Like she knew just what he needed, that closeness he wasn't likely to get from anyone else.

Overall, this was subtle and lovely; just the way the beginning of a love story ought to be.
