Fic: ‘Where else to pluck stars?’
Title: Where else to pluck stars?
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia (movie)
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During events in the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe; before they returned to this world.
Summary: Where else could she reach for the stars?

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This is meant to be nothing more than something lighthearted. I could imagine Lucy reaching to pluck a star from the sky and asking Mr Tumnus that very question.

Walking between the trees, a leaf brushed her cheek and she glanced up, smiling at the wayward leaf. It was then the stars caught her gaze, silvery blue in the midnight sky. If she reached just enough ...

Her hand fell when she jumped, having been startled by someone’s hand on her shoulder.

“Mr Tumnus!” She breathlessly exclaimed. “You startled me!”

“And what were you doing, yo—Lucy Pevensie, if I may ask?”

“I was trying to pluck a star,” she explained matter-of-factly.

“Pluck ... a star?” The Faun asked, arching an eyebrow quizzically.

“Of course!” She laughed. “The stars seem much closer in Narnia than they do where I came from.”

“Are you always going to reach for the stars, Lucy Pevensie?”

Lucy grinned. “Of course, Mr Tumnus!” She chuckled, merrily, and he found a smile curving his lips in response. “Mr Tumnus?”

“Yes, Lucy Pevensie?”

She pulled her cloak tightly about her, biting her lip thoughtfully. “Do you think that these stars are the same stars from where we came from?”

Mr Tumnus stroked his beard while studying the sky for several moments. “These,” he looked down to his small companion, “are Narnia stars, Lucy Pevensie. Would you rather they were the stars of Spare Oom?”

Lucy slipped an arm around her friend’s waist. “No,” she finally replied. “I like them being Narnia stars. Where else could I reach and try to pluck one from the sky?”

Mr Tumnus laughed as he guided his young friend back toward Cair Paravel. “Where else, indeed?” He laughed. “Where else, indeed?”

Oh this is beautiful. I love it. I love the play with the reach for the stars phrase as well!

Thank you! As for the play on the 'reach for the stars' phrase? I'll leave you to guess as to whether that was deliberate or not!
