Fic: ‘His world as the trumpets belled.’
Title: His world as the trumpets belled.
Fandom: Lord of the Rings (movies).
Rating: (G)
Time Period: After events in Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King.
Summary: His world consisted of only them.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

I’ve had this moment in the back of my head for a few days; I decided to write it. A simple, quiet, peaceful moment between father and son.

All characters contained herein are the intellectual property of JRR Tolkien, the Tolkien Estate and the Tolkien Trust & Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens (their interpretations); I am not affiliated with nor endorsed by them.

The baker grumbled as the long slender trumpets sounded, their call picked up level by level. The cook in their kitchens paused, looked out the door over a small courtyard and smiled. Small birds nesting in various windows and roofs spread their wings in alarm before settling once more in their nests.

Upon the White Tree, another flower unfurled its ivory petals and reached for the dawning sun.

Beside a bed, the King sat with a small bundle of white swaddling in his arms. From the bed, his Queen smiled wanly, her eyes brilliant in her pale face. His eyes strayed only to his Queen and he smiled, awed by the act of his son coming into the world. Distantly, the trumpets belling call came to his ears.

He ignored them; they were not part of his world, a world that consisted solely of the small life in his arms and his wife in the soft dawn light.

The outside world could, and would, intrude soon enough.

Thank you very much! This story had a few different draft before I settled on this one and I'm very glad it worked out!

That's really lovely, such a peaceful moment. The flower unfurling on the White Tree to match the new birth is a very nice touch.

It's a moment that felt right although it also felt as though I was peeking in on it a little, intruding.

The flower unfurling on the White Tree to match the new birth is a very nice touch.
It seemed something that would happen.

Beautiful. I remember watching the sunrise with my newborn daughter. You've captured the peace and joy of the moment beautifully.
