Fic: ‘An honour safe with friends.’
Title: An honour safe with friends.
Fandom: Chronicles of Narnia (movie)
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During: the Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe - before the coronation.
Summary: The ceremony was safe in the hands of friends.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This is the second of three parts; I was going to post it in one fell swoop but I didn’t want to detract from each story and the moment it contained. So, three different parts!

I wasn’t very certain what characters to involve in this trio of stories and then, as I thought some more, I realised I already knew who I wanted to be in these stories: the Beavers, Mr Tumnus and Lucy. I’ve enjoyed writing for them in various other stories, especially over the 2010 ‘Tis the Season stories. With that in mind, who else could it be?

I wasn’t intending this to be a story between Aslan and Mr Tumnus; original intentions had been to have it be between Lucy and Tumnus but that’s not what came forth. Dialogue between Aslan and Mr Tumnus felt the most natural.

If wanting to read this as a stand-alone, it can be read as so. If not wanting to read it on its own, Too great an honour came first.

All characters contained herein are the intellectual property of C. S. Lewis & and his estate as well as Andrew Adamson, Ann Peacock, Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (their interpretations); I am not affiliated with nor endorsed by them.

“There is no one who could better crown our Kings and Queens than one who is, and shall remain, a loyal friend.”

“I was not always so loyal,” the Faun replied, his eyes downcast; he could not look the Great Lion, the King of the World, in the eye with the knowledge of what he had intended at that first meeting.

“I saw how you were greeted at the White Witch’s castle by Susan, sister of Lucy. I doubt she would have responded to you so well if you were not considered a friend by all.”

The Faun fidgeted before those golden knowing eyes. “It would be an honour,” he quietly admitted, finally.

“An honour to which no one is better suited than yourself, Son of the Woods.” Those unblinking eyes didn’t move until the slight quirking of the Faun’s lips indicated what he knew would happen. “It is done. You will crown Narnia’s Kings and Queens with the Beavers.”

“Thank you, Aslan.” The Faun bowed and the Great Lion turned; other business required his attention now and he knew the crowning of the new royalty was safe in the hands of their friends.

You know, for some reason, this reminds me of how much I loved the first film. It's the tone, I think. Spot on. :D

Thank you! I was afraid of muddling the whole scene, especially with Aslan's part. I feel so much better about it now.
