Fic: ‘Lights in the sky.’
Title: Lights in the sky.
Fandom: Middle-earth: movie-verse.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Any time between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Summary: An enthralling display.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

It’s New Year’s. I couldn’t resist a story about fireworks.

So, I wrote one!

With the exception of original characters created purely for the purpose of the story, all characters contained herein are the intellectual property of JRR Tolkien, the Tolkien Estate and the Tolkien Trust & Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh & Philippa Boyens (their interpretations); I am not affiliated with nor endorsed by them.

A burst of sound brought attention to the sky; an assembled gasp of surprised delight and claps of joy mingled in the night.

Ribbons of golden and rose streaked through the dark blue night, with flowers suddenly exploding and blue-green birds flew through the chaos of light. Another echoing burst and butterflies flew amongst the flowers composed entirely of light.

No one moved. No one spoke. No one dared breathe while the light display crashed and flew over their heads.

“Oh, Gandalf,” a small Hobbit finally whispered, tugging on the wizard’s robes. He glanced down to the curly-haired Hobbit entranced by the flowers, streamers and butterflies; his hands were filled with rockets. “Oh, Gandalf.

“Thank you.”

The elderly wizard smiled, disentangled himself from the young one’s hands and set the rockets on the ground before setting their fuses alight.

Song and stars filled the air.

Thank you! I really like fireworks and when I sat to write this, all I could think of was Sam's descriptions of Gandalf's fireworks. It was a fitting way to bring in the New Year!
