Fic: ‘Are we there yet?’
Title: Are we there yet?
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During tPM; on the way to Coruscant after Tatooine.
Summary: What a holy man is called upon to witness.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q. or check this post for the definition).

Kids always seem to ask this one question that annoys the adults: are we there yet?. I coupled this in mind, after seeing an icon of Anakin with goggles on at sweet__tea, with an image of Anakin wearing oversized goggles. Add one Obi-Wan and voila, we have a conversation I couldn’t help myself imagining! Especially when I added location and R2 popped to mind!

I haven’t watched tPM in quite some time so the characterisation might be ‘off’ – this was simply written because I couldn’t help but imagine this conversation.

It was cold, Anakin discovered; in all his imaginings, he never expected space to be cold. Nor did he expect it …

“Are we there yet?” he asked, bored.

Obi-Wan glanced to the young boy; it had been a mistake to bring him from the planet, he still felt, but he would not disobey his Master’s wishes. He would be polite to the boy. “It will be some time until we have reached Coruscant.”

Anakin peered at the R2 unit through his oversized goggles; he had found them in the engine room during a moment of exploration when he had escaped the watchful eye of the security staff and Qui-Gon. One of the Handmaidens, the pretty one he remembered from Tatooine, had aided in his escape. Of course, Obi-Wan had found him. “I agree,” he nodded firmly at the astromech droid. “We should be there already!”

Patience, Obi-Wan. A Jedi is patient. “We have had to be careful of the engines as they are newly repaired.”

“If you let me fix ‘em, we could go as fast as my pod!”

“You are to sit where you were told and-”

“Freeep!” And what sounded like a ‘thbbbbt!’. Obi-Wan glanced at the R2 unit beside Anakin, arching an eyebrow very faintly.

“We should be there already,” Anakin insisted. “Isn’t it important the Queen be there?”

Was the droid agreeing with the boy? “We will arrive when the Force wills it, not before.” He sounded like one of the Masters from the Temple; was he becoming one of the Masters or was it simply the boy in front of him? “Master Qui-Gon will know what you may do.”

Anakin sighed. He fidgeted when he stood; the droid tootled sympathetically. Anakin straightened his shoulders, standing tall, his eyes focused on the Jedi padawan beside him. “Are we there yet?”

Obi-Wan didn’t respond and instead turned, allowing the boy to leave before him.

Hehe, cute! Poor little Ani isn't used to sitting around doing nothing!

I couldn't imagine Anakin sitting on that ship doing nothing for the first time in his life.
