Fic: ‘Tis the Season: A moment caught in time.
Title: ‘Tis the Season: A moment caught in time.
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Sometime before the events of A New Hope.
Summary: An abuse of Senatorial privilege.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q. or check this post for the definition).

I began writing the ‘Tis the Season’ series for fun after watching that BBC1 Ident trailer and wanted to continue; they’d been posted every second day and then, I missed a day and felt bad for missing that day so this is the ‘fic for that day. A catch up ‘fic if you like!

This was also written due to having written It Was The Hat and A Moment Too Rare. This isn’t, strictly, a sequel to either ‘fic but I’ve always liked Pooja and wondered what exactly had happened – did Padmé holograph Obi-Wan wearing the hat, or not?

Being considered a loyal and trusted Imperial Senator had its perks, one of them privacy when it was desired; she was never truly alone with her aides in the adjoining room but it was enough with the doors sealed shut and only able to be opened from her side of the door.

Tucking hair behind an ear, she pressed play after pulling the elbow length gloves from her hands.

“Padmé, I must protest …”
“Master Jedi, you are aware the recording has begun are you not?”

A crooked smile formed. A solitary image of her aunt flickered into place; it was an old recording and always played once a year, on the anniversary of its receipt. She remembered the hat she had sent her aunt during the Wars, the pride she had felt upon receiving the holo.

“Pooja, thank you for the gift. It’s a very lovely hat. Upon saying that, I must present …”

Obi-Wan stood next to Padmé. The hat fit him well, the end of it slung over his shoulder with its jaunty snowy ball upon the end. A sweetmallow shaped as a hook, red and white striped, dangled from the corner of his mouth. He did not look pleased to be in the recording and a short laugh escaped unbidden at the sight of the Jedi General looking decidedly not General-like at that moment.

“Jedi Master Kenobi has promised to wear your hat at the next session of the Jedi Council.”

She leaned forward to see the glimmer of amused mischief in Padmé’s eyes.

“Senator Amidala, I will lodge a formal protest with the Jedi Council at this abuse of Senatorial privilege!”

Her aunt turned and embraced the Jedi – it was easier to think of them not with their names but as their titles – tightly before she kissed him on the cheek. He turned his head just so and his lips met hers, her aunt’s hand upon his cheek before sliding to his shoulder.

Caught in the passion of the moment, Padmé had left the recording running but she didn’t mind. It was a moment of weakness between two people who had been nothing but strong and it reminded her, quite simply, that her aunt had been human and that, yes, even Jedi had their moments of humanity.

It also reminded her that her aunt had been loved and loved well by a man who had been quietly devoted to her aunt, the Senator of Naboo.

“Pooja, I will wear it to the next Council session.”

His tunic was rumpled and he was attempting decorum but not well, she judged; especially not with the sweetmallow being stuck to his darker brown cloak. Her aunt stepped forward, her face composed.

“I look forward to hearing about your becoming an astromech droid when next I am home. It sounds fascinating and I am most intrigued about how you will become a droid.

“Until the next time we see each other.”

And that was all. There was a knock upon the door and she snatched up her gloves, wiping her eyes with one and took a deep breath before she opened the door to face her aides and the Empire once more.

It's such a funny image of him, isn't it? Serious Jedi with the Santa hat worn with the end dangling over one shoulder ...

That's pretty much it. Just the kind of image to make the holidays... the holidays.

Everyone really seems to enjoy seeing that and I enjoy writing them so it’s nice to have feedback letting me know when it works for someone.

I admit, I laugh when I write those scenes!

“Senator Amidala, I will lodge a formal protest with the Jedi Council at this abuse of Senatorial privilege!” LOL Great line and so Obi-Wan.

It's sweet that Pooja has such wonderful memories of her Aunt, and perhaps Uncle Obi-Wan. One can dream.. ;)

Thank you! I’m glad someone picked up on that line and that it sounded very much Obi-Wan; that was one of my favourite lines to write for the entire story!

I was glad to let her have something that would counter what the Empire was saying about the Jedi and how her aunt died and I’m very glad that someone finds it sweet – I was very nervous about this story!
