Fic: ‘Tis the Season: A credit for the sweetmallow?
Title: ‘Tis the Season: A credit for the sweetmallow?
Fandom: Star Wars.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Sometime between AotC & RotS.
Summary: At the end of a long night, a surprise.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q. or check this post for the definition).

After writing Within a moment, I felt tugged toward this idea by the music I’d listened to when I wrote that piece of fanfic: All I Want For Christmas, as sung by Olivia Olson.

This is part I of II.

Under the tree, she sat, pulling the combs from her hair until it fell freely and surrounded her with its curls. The wish globes had been turned to a lower setting so it was twilight in the once brightly lit room that had bustled with life and now was haunted by the memory of laughter that had underlined every word spoken, each gesture motioned. The greenery around the room drooped. Her shoulders slumped.

For one night, she had forgotten the Wars around the galaxy. She had talked and laughed as freely as one could with the shadows that gathered even on Coruscant. She had not wanted to think about the bloodied mud of the planetary battlefields that she had seen on the HoloNet or imagined. She had wanted the children to forget for one bright evening which was why she and her aides had spoken to many species and planetary ambassadors about the festivals they celebrated at this time of the year, a holiday that each planet might’ve had in common. Slowly, the evening had come together and the attendees had been ambassadors, Senators and refugees that had fled their planets before, and after, the Separatist advance. Master Yoda had seen to the security so her personal security could have the evening to enjoy; the Jedi had been a visible presence throughout the night and with each sighting of the familiar tunic, her heart had squeezed itself tight, until she could hardly breathe, and then released her from its grip when she saw the owner of each tunic.

It had never been him.

What could not be forgotten was the sorrow hidden underneath the bright smiles and mindless chatter she had engaged in. She would even have been overjoyed to see Anakin for what that would have meant. Her brown gaze fell to the sweetmallow she now held, having plucked it from the tree where it had been hung by a child who had thought the tree would look better for the decoration. A smile lopsidedly curved her lips; the child had been right, she decided. That branch had looked the better for that decoration.

“A credit for the sweetmallow?”

I love these Christmas fics. Even from fandoms that don't appear to be from a world that wouldn't have it. Especially from these even.

I'm glad to hear that you're enjoying the 'Tis the Season series of 'fics. I wasn't certain if they were being enjoyed or not.

Aww I'm enjoying them too.

Poor Padme, "It had never been him."

It sure would of been awesome if it was. But, of course the sacrifice that are meant during war time, sure puts a damper on that.

So sad, but lovely at the same time.

That’s really lovely to hear. I’ve been enjoying writing them!

Poor Padmé
I’d had that sense throughout the ‘fic of how sad she was and am really glad that it came through for someone else other than myself.

So sad, but lovely at the same time.
Thank you – that’s really great to hear for this ‘fic!

Very beautiful, albeit a bit bittersweet at the same time =)

War times are always cruel on our star-crossed lovers =(

And now I let out a huge sigh of relief because I wasn’t certain if that was coming across and you’re the second person to let me know. Thank you!

War times are always cruel on our star-crossed lovers =(
Unfortunately, they are.
