Update: Fantasy ...?
I’d like to apologise for disappearing for months on end but real life has reared its ugly head and has disrupted my life and what I was working on – which included an Obidala which was being done, I admit, due to my frustration with a Star Wars fan I met in a book store.

There are a couple of reasons I’ve decided to do this update and one of them is to state that yes, I’m alive and somewhat well. Also, I’ve made a couple decisions that I’m hoping will bear fruit in the next few weeks and will be seen on morethanacandle. I hope – real life has really been a pain in the arse lately.

And drum roll please ….!

Who reads fantasy? Or watches it? I know I do – and write it as well! – and this isn’t a way to try and poke fun of people but a chance to see what they like to see in fantasy. I’m taking on a task of writing a Young Adult fantasy story (a story and not an undertaking of a novel) and I was curious to know what people liked to see in their fantasy to see if that could help me with this particular story – its only strictures are that it be Young Adult and have a female protagonist!

So, if you’d like to weigh in on this, leave any and all comments to this update. Thanks!

Assuming we're talking fantasy here, and not sci-fi, I prefer high-fantasy. I like quests, and magic. I'm not a huge fan of the rather cliched farm boy done good (ala Eddings and Jordan); but I do quite like prophecies being involved. That's all I can really say about it.

I'm hoping to stay away from the cliched farm boy done good - or in this case, farm girl done good. It's becoming overdone. Of course, I could be saying this after the many, many, many books of the Wheel of Time series.
