His arms about her, they twirl; he dips her. When she's upright again, her cheeks are flushed from the exertion.

“Should we keep with tradition or break it?”

They've paused and she's about to speak, to protest, to ask what he's talking about when she remembers he'd glanced up just before speaking; she looks up and sees the mistletoe hanging from the ceiling. “We ...” she begins.

“Yes?” He quietly presses.

It's then she realises how close they are. How firmly his arms are around her. How her cheeks flush from more than their dancing.

He's kissed almost everyone at the party here, under the mistletoe. Cheeks, foreheads lips. He's kept to what's meant to be done under the mistletoe. Besides, party. Christmas party. Ranks are left at the door, right?

That, a small voice inside her says, doesn't mean she won't enjoy what's about to happen.

Her lips part, the tip of her tongue moistening them. “We should ...”

He leans closer. “We should what, Carter?”

An arm lands on her shoulder; not only can she feel it but she saw the same happen to him. Everything comes rushing in: the Chipmunk song now playing, the clink of glasses, chatter and conversation washing over her in waves; the presence of so many people feels warm and close.

“Shall we, Captain Carter?”

“Shall we what Teal'c?”

“Keep the … what did you say it was, O'Neill?”

“Tradition, Teal'c. Tradition.”

“Keep the tradition of the ...”

“... mistletoe ...”

“... mistletoe alive, Captain Carter?”

“Why not, Teal'c?” His cheeks between her hands, she kisses his forehead, the only place available other than his lips. Once done?

Teal'c grabs the colonel's face in his hands before he places a wet kiss on the colonel's mouth; there's no escape from the large capable hands of the Jaffa and Jack know it. Definitely knows it now; after that, there can be no doubts.

“What do I do now, O'Neill?”

“Let go of me, for starters. Now, you ...”

Their words drift over head, washed away in the noise. From the corner of her gaze, she sees Daniel facepalming, Janet talking to someone near him. She focuses back on the conversation happening near her.

“This tradition,” Teal'c was saying, “leaves me unsatisfied.”

Me too, a small voice says, unbidden. Me too.

Awww.... poor Carter.

Why do I think Daniel saw the exchange and that's why he was facepalming?

I wouldn't be surprised.
