Summary: Bruce asks a question.

Bruce looks over to his butler, weaving tinsel about his hand. “Alfred?”

Alfred stops, stands at attention. “Yes, master Bruce?”

“Why did you do this?” He holds up his tinsel-wrapped hand. “We didn't need to.”

“That's why we had to do it, master Bruce.”

The boy narrows his eyes at his butler. “Explain, Alfred.”

“We had to keep the traditions your parents started, didn't we? Did you not feel your mother near to you master Bruce?”

“I did.”

“And was it not better than that last memory of her?”

Bruce nods.

“Remember that warmth, master Bruce. It'll help when everything seems dark and lost.”

“When'd you get so wise, Alfred?”

Alfred looks over at the young boy packing away tinsel (he'd not wanted to press him too much) and decides for a more serious answer than the one that immediately came to mind. “When I had to, master Bruce. When I had to.”
