He settles himself in the chair with a sigh of pleasure and grabs the beer from the table between the chairs. He taps the bottle against his knee, watching the horizon splash pink and peach across the sky. He twists the lid from his beer and cool liquid slides down his throat, wetting the dryness from the day just gone. His gaze rests on the horizon again, noting that stars are popping into view all over the sky.

Another swig, willing his mind not to go where it wants but where it should.

As a lightly cool breeze ruffles his hair gently, he can't help but imagine a soft touch, slender fingers smoothing his hair. If he closes his eyes, he can smell her perfume, feel her body near his, arms holding her close.

He closes his eyes, takes another swig and another. When he feels his grip loosen on his beer, his eyes open, to find a dark sky with a scented breeze leading the way, wreaking merry havoc on his senses.

God, he knows and understands why she'd stayed but he wishes she'd come back. To him and their life here. Instead …

Instead she told him she was staying and saying he should move on.

He finishes the bottle in his hand and studies the house behind him critically.

Right. First thing he'd do tomorrow was get out that box of decorations and adorn his house. Then he had to look at the engine on his truck and then his dad's car in the garage. Call his aunt Deb and then put up the decorations.

And maybe he wouldn't think of her at all.

Say, he wonders as he stands and walks back to the house, does Jerry have some spare time?
