Fic: ‘Tis the Season: … a tangerine!?
Title: ‘Tis the Season: … a tangerine!?
Fandom: Doctor Who
Rating: (G)
Time Period: After Amy and Rory have left.
Summary: At least he has a tangerine?

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

I have popcorn and cushions and I can't help but peek from between hands covering my eyes because the Doctor has decided he's in charge and he has a tangerine.

All characters contained herein are the intellectual property of the BBC & Steven Moffat; I am not affiliated with nor endorsed by them.

He stretches his legs, splays them before him before he drinks from the almost empty bottle. A small mouthful, to be certain, but a mouthful all the same.

He can't remember a time when there wasn't Geoff and his wife; she'd gone by a human moniker for so long, he could only think of her as that now.

Mrs Claus.

The name conjures warmth and a twinkle in the eye, usually blue. The real person was filled with all this (except maybe the twinkle but that might be only when he came to visit) but also incredible patience (again, probably only when he came to visit) and love.

She loved Geoff. It was what he remembered most about them. She loved Geoff.

He hands the bottle back. “What happened?” He prompts gently, seeing Geoff's bloodshot eyes. How much had he had by the time he got here?

His eyes stray into the shadows behind his friend.

Oh. That much.

“She says,” Geoff begins between hiccups and a swig that finishes the bottle; it lands with a tinkle of falling glass, “I don't pay attention an' more. That I tak' 'er for granted.”

There was probably more but the Doctor?

His arm goes around Geoff's shoulders. He reaches into his jacket pocket and pulls out a tangerine; you never knew when one could save your life in the holidays, he'd discovered although he'd found out with a satsuma.

Were they different, tangerines and satsumas? He'd have to find out when he had more time and less friend to sober. The tangerine was a good start for the latter.

He holds it up before Geoff's eyes, trying to make him focus. “This,” he says slowly and loudly, “is a tangerine. Eat it, shower and we can have some coffee before we go making plans on how to win back your wife. All right?” Geoff's head slumps forward. “I'll take that as an accord. So.”

A nearby reindeer looks up. The Doctor nods. The reindeer goes back to its grass.

The Doctor regards his friend with a sigh. “I wish you weren't so big.”

Someone had to remember the popcorn! Same next instalment?

Someone had to be the grown up?

YUS. Gotta be consistent!

Bah. Grown-ups are...for grown-ups. (I swear that made sense in my head)!

Popcorn there should be! I'm beginning to wonder if I shouldn't just have some on hand for this month!

You know, I think that's what the Doctor would say ...

... but he wouldn't be Santa if he wasn't so big.

Ohhh, I'm not even sure what to say. My husband is giving me odd looks for the smilings I'm making at this.

The Doctor and a tangerine can have that effect in people.

Thank you for taking the time out to read this, even if your husband did give odd looks!
