Fic: ‘How valuable the night!’
Title: How valuable the night!
Fandom: the Musketeers
Rating: (PG)
Time Period: Season 1, after Friends & Enemies.
Summary: Aramis is missing her, he thinks.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

After seeing last week's the Musketeers, I couldn't help but wonder and write. It began one way, went another and this ended up being the result.

Spoilers if you’ve not seen the episode.

In his not-so-humble (so Porthos would tell him) opinion, the night was valuable. It could conceal, mystify and, he'd discovered once, carry smells. It was also long and afforded him more time than the day ever could.

Case in point: Adéle.

He had last visited her during the day and they'd barely had any time at all to be together before the Cardinal had come to see her! However, he'd not been able to see her at night and that had been hard although, sometimes, he'd knock on her door when the Cardinal was at the palace, which had been rare at night.

But now, she had gone to the Cardinal's estate and that was hard. She'd chosen whose presence was worth more in her bed and it definitely was not his.

He stares at his now empty wineskin and flings it to one side. He loves Adéle (although the fact that she is the Cardinal's mistress was, he admits, a wonderful benefit) and, maybe, he could move to a better woman now. Perhaps.

“Ah, Adéle.” he murmurs as he pulls off his boots. “Adéle.”
