Fic: ‘Where next?’
Title: Where next?
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During Dinosaurs on a spaceship, near the end.
Summary: Brian makes a decision.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

I meant to write this after watching Dinosaurs on a spaceship but I got distracted, especially as Mark Williams was in the episode; I kept saying ‘Mister Weasley’ and I couldn’t write until I had that out of my system!

It was either Brian or Riddell or Neffy; I might write the other two yet!

Possible spoilers are given.

He holds the golf ball in his hand: small, white, pitted, sticky-almost-dry. His fingers close around the ball.

He puts the golf ball on a shelf and looks at it, his hand beside it. No more paper shop and golf for him! Arthur C. Clarke has taught him more than that. He’s ridden a dinosaur on a spaceship and seen the Earth in all her glory.

From space. All he’d meant to do was fix Rory’s light and he’d ended up in space. With dinosaurs and missiles.

His eyes were open and he wasn’t going to close them again. In memory of poor Tricey, of seeing the Earth whilst having a cuppa and a sandwich (he’d been surprised to see Arthur C. Clarke had an array of sandwiches), of flying a spaceship, he was going to see the world. He couldn’t let his adventure, Tricey’s death, be for nothing.

He lifts his hand and tucks it into his pocket. He has the memories of his adventure but the ball is more. It reminds him of what was lost, what he’d lost by simply going to the paper shop and golf.

He won’t lose that again.

“Here’s a postcard from y’dad.” Amy holds up the ‘card; Rory glances at it.

“Where’s it from?”

“India,” Amy replies and turns to the ‘fridge where they’ve got photos; she puts Brian’s ‘card there, smiling at the hat and Brian’s grin. “The Taj Mahal, according to the ‘card.”

“From a man who’d only go to the paper shop and golf,” Rory chuckles, sliding over for Amy and the rest of their mail. “Where to next, I wonder.”

“Maybe he’ll go to Rio,” Amy muses as she flips through the mail.

“Maybe,” Rory smiles as he takes the mail from his wife. “How’s that light?”

Brian was the character in this episode who stood out, story wise, and I'm so glad I continued his story well. Thank you!

Thank you; a story about Brian wouldn't have felt complete without them.
