Fic: ‘Should he?’
Title: Should he?
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: The end of The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.
Summary: She won’t be armed. Will she?

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This was inspired by the end of The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. Don’t read further if you’ve not watched The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.

I’m also fooling around a little until next week!

The light feels too bright, too insensitive. He turns, off the step and onto the footpath; snow crunches under his boots. He can see his breath puff into the air.

It feels nicer here, away from the streetlight and that door. He looks at that door; he can hear carollers, a few houses down; he smiles, faintly. Ah, humans and their need to spread goodwill to all men, even if those men didn’t want it!

His smile quirks, becomes more vibrant, briefly, before it fades before that door.

Yes. The door. He should walk up the steps and confront that door. Oh, the horrors lying behind that door.

He shoves his hands into his coat pockets and looks up, to the sky. Yes. The sky. Brilliant. Stars, moon all where they should be? Excellent.

He knows he should knock on the door, knows if she’s angry? There’s good reason, from her point of view. He knows he might be ... what will she do? He tilts his head, considering. Unlike her daughter, she won’t have a gun.

Will she?

“This is stupid,” he mutters. “Afraid of a human.”

But not any human, he concludes. She’s special. She waited.

With a last glance to the sky, and a look to see where the carollers were (in case he needs a distraction. And witnesses), he ascends the steps, pulling his hand from his pocket.

And knocks.

She forgave him for the 11th Hour events though. He left her; twice in that episode, and yet despite that; the only person in her life that /may/ be more important is Rory.

He is her best friend and he's not more important than River.
