Title: a harsh light

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

I wanted Gríma out of my head!

Unlike the harsh light, the darkness is kind; he is a lover under a gentle caress.

His eyes flicker over her movements; she moves from the King’s side to fetch a drink, a meal, a cloak to wrap around her uncle’s shoulders. Never once does she look at him. Never once does she smile or speak gently, softly, to him as she does her uncle. Never once does her hand rest on his shoulder nor does she lean closer to whisper in his ear.

Always, though she doesn’t know, she brightens his day. Always does she take away the shadows lurking in his thoughts. He resents, yet craves, her presence, her light.

A burst of sun makes her hair glow; he shrinks back, away from the cursed light. Soon, he thinks. Soon she will be his. And soon she, too, will shrink from the light.

... that's just scary. Really intense. He made me shudder in the movies; and you've done the same.
