Fic: ‘an unspoken apology’
Title: an unspoken apology
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: (PG)
Time Period: Between AotC and RotS.
Summary: She knows to look between.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This comes some time after goodbye and I find myself more curious than usual as to what comes next.

All characters contained herein are the intellectual property of Lucas; I am not affiliated with nor endorsed by him.

She swirls onto the floor, a firm hand at her waist; that firmness comes from, and with, familiarity. It isn’t until she looks up, brown eyes meeting blue, that she recognises her sudden dance partner. As recognition flares, her body tenses; she hasn’t seen him in months.

“To what do I owe the honour?”

It is easier to lose oneself in words, to not think of looking away one moment and finding them gone the next. No words to mark the occasion, the finality. She would have preferred words to silence.

“Must I have a reason?”

Her chin slightly uplifts; no one but he can see it. “Jedi never dance without cause.”

He twirls her out the length of his arm and reels her back in. He doesn’t speak; she doesn’t expect him to fill the silence between them. The music slows, fades. He releases her. She turns away; the edge of the crowd beckons.

She stills and glances over her shoulder. An eyebrow curves.

“I apologise for taking you from your conversation.”

“As long as it does not happen again, Master Jedi.” A slight uplift of her lips.

“It shall not.” He half-bows at the waist and steps out of the path of a Senator and their Twi’lek aide.

She continues forward; when she turns, facing the dancing couples, he is still there.

Yet another lovely, bittersweet scene that makes me want more!! It's so clear there is so much unsaid in their pauses.

Thank you. I keep wondering if the 'more' is before or after; I want to see what happens next for them in this set!

Which excites the curiosity?

Hm, I don't know, but the feeling arises from the writing, particularly their formality with each other, despite the obvious familiarity. It makes me wonder what caused the familiarity, and what pushed them to return to formality.

So, now, you'd like to see the 'before'?
Mindyarliddian on May 27th, 2012 01:11 pm (UTC)
Yes, I think so!

I can say that I honestly feel the next story in this particular series will be a 'before'; I can't see an 'after' after this one.

Oh wow. I never really think of Jedi dancing...

Awww, sweet. I'm a sucker for dancing couples. I love the lead in to this, her being whisked onto the dance floor by an unknown partner. Very lovely. The dialogue, especially Obi-Wan's is spot on, as usual! :)

Ohthankgoodness! I'm always concerned with his dialogue.

As am I! It's also a great place for conversations, oddly enough.
