Title: ‘Tis the Season: Handheld fun!

Time Period: Any time between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Summary: A bit of mischief.

It’s the New Year. I couldn’t help myself!

Dark, still, he can reach the stars. Ignoring the grown-ups, he stares disconsolately at the sky. His bottom lip quivers, pushing beyond the upper. His hands in his pockets, he kicks the nearby tussock of grass.

Suddenly, he finds himself before a tree and an elderly human man crouching before him, a finger against his lips. The childling, his brow furrowing, watches as the man pulls something from inside his cloak. The object is placed within the youngling’s hand and he grins upon the sight of it.

The old man points up and he grins, holding it up with one hand.



Sparks fly in the air above them and he laughs. The old man laughs with him and hands him another.
