Amy rushes in with a mug of water and, gently, Rory feeds it to the man in his arms. Eventually, the coughs subside and Rory lays Geoff back on the pillows, handing the water back to Amy, who hands it to the Doctor who hands it to Geoff; it finally ends up on the bedside table.

“Now, what’s going on?”

The Doctor claps his hands together, rubbing them gleefully. “The Grizz’t, Geoff’s workers—”

Paid workers,” Geoff interjects.

“Right. Paid workers.” The Doctor turns his head toward Geoff. “How can you do that? You’re non-profit!”

Geoff laughs, coughs a little and Rory hands him the mug of water; it’s only now that Rory realises there’s a snow scene on the mug! “Long story. You had to be there.” He pauses. “Oh. Right. You were.”

The Doctor ignores Amy’s querying expression and ploughs on. “Anyway, someone has to take his toys and I guess that’ll be me.”

“Are you telling me,” Amy asks, “that Geoff is Santa and he’s a Time Lord?”

The Doctor looks to Geoff. Geoff looks to the Doctor. The Doctor looks to Amy. “Well, not technically.”

“What do you mean,” Amy raises an eyebrow in the Doctor’s direction, “technically?”

“He’s more of a ... Earth Lord,” the Doctor explains. “He’s been on Earth so long he’s become forgotten and attuned to Earth.”

“And humans,” Geoff adds.

“So, the jolly fat man ...?”

Geoff laughs, coughs and laughs more. “That was one regeneration. Someone saw me once and the story spread.”

“Helped, of course,” the Doctor straightens his bow tie, “by me.”

Rory rolls his eyes and Amy groans, her face falling into her hand.

“So,” the Doctor grins, “Geoff will be looked after by you two while I deliver the presents.”

“You can’t be late,” Geoff warns.

“Don’t intend to,” the Doctor assures. “I’ll have a word with the old girl and Blitz.”

As he strolls from the room, Amy looks to Rory. “Will you please take that ridiculous coat off?”

Geoff looks between them with interest.

“Rory, was it?”

Rory nods.

Geoff puts his hand on the (much) younger man’s shoulder. A warmth spreads though Rory. “Take the coat off,” the older man suggests.

Fine,” Rory concedes and take his coat off, laying it on the bed.

Amy narrows her eyes. “That’s not your jumper,” she accuses.

Rory looks down and grins. His jumper is a light tan yarn with red sleighs running around his shoulders.

“Thank. You,” he mouths to Geoff while overhead, as the TARDIS flies over?

... this would explain a lot. Actually it kind of reminds me of Cho-Je.
