Rory half-turns. “Geoff?”

Amy shoves him through the front door.

A large fire dances in the hearth; the Doctor vanishes through a door and, discarding her coat, Amy follows. Rory, pulling his coat closer around him, just looks up at the roof.

And up.

“Amy?” He whispers to where she had been. When she doesn’t answer, Rory walks through the nearest door, only taking a step through it. “Amy!”

No answer.

He runs down the empty hall; a wooden coat rack is outside the next door he pushes open, his eyes wildly searching for his missing wife. He stops just by the door, his coat belted shut. His eyes widen.

He should be used to this by now, he knows. The TARDIS is bigger on the inside but this is a house; it should follow the rules of being a house, the main one being it should be the same size as its outside.

Idle conveyor belts stand silent. Scarred wooden work benches join them. Toys are scattered across them; tool belts sit near them. The chairs at nearby tables are at odd angles, as though the people sitting in them had just left. It’s an eerie scene; Rory expects someone, anyone to walk in and begin work. Dust curls over a deserted bench, reaching for the oaken rafters high above.

“Rory?” A hand lays on his shoulder; his name echoes throughout the empty room; he jumps and when he lands, finds Amy behind him. “Come on or we’ll miss the story.”

“Story?” Rory repeats, dazed.

“About what happened here. Apparently, it’s not meant to be so ...” She looks around them, her hair bright in the sombre sunlight peeking through the windows. “... empty.”

Rory nods and follows her down the hall, taking the right he’d missed when chasing after his (now not) missing wife. When they enter the room, door swinging behind them, Rory sees the Doctor and a taller, more muscular man in his late thirties; the latter is in a bed and he attempts to rise when they enter.

Far too easily, the Doctor pushes him back and he (thankfully) lands on the bank of pillows behind him; Rory can recognise the Doctor’s handiwork with the pillows – they look like the TARDIS. If it was made of white and polka dotted pillows.

“Geoff says this is the fault of the Grizz’t,” the Doctor explains as they walk in. “One of the Trickster brigade was involved.”

“Grizz’t? Trickster brigade?” Amy asks as she tucks the blanket around Geoff. “And maybe you,” a pointed look at the Doctor, “should introduce Rory and Geoff?”

Fine,” the Doctor mutters and tilts his fez. “RoryGeoffGeoffRory. Happy?”

After a cough which shakes him, Geoff offers a hand. “Geoff,” he smiles weakly. “Or Nick. Whichever you prefer.”

Rory shakes the man’s hand and checks his pulse which is thready and weak. “Nick?”

“Goodness, Rory, are you usually this thick or is the coat affecting your brain somehow?” The Doctor asks, receiving a Look from Amy. “You should take it off,” he adds more meekly. “You’ll roast alive in that and your brand new jumper. Which,” he leans closer to Rory, “you should show Geoff. I’m sure he’d like it.”

Rory drops Geoff’s wrist and looks at the bedside table. “I don’t see any fluids,” he says, ignoring the Doctor. “Those are important.”

Geoff nods, with a sideways glance to the Doctor, who shrugs. “I told Blitz he was a nurse. It’s the only reason he agreed we could come. I didn’t want to deal with Rudy.”

“I ca—” Geoff breaks off into a coughing fit and Rory brushes the Doctor aside as he supports the older man.

“Amy,” he directs without looking away from the coughing man, “get a glass of water and then,” he says to Geoff, “you can explain why you have a workshop that’s bigger on the inside and about the Grizz’t.”
