Fic: ‘Your Mick.’
Title: Your Mick.
Fandom: Offspring
Rating: (M)
Time Period: Season 2, around episode 13.
Summary: Billie and Nina have a sisterly chat.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

When I was thinking of Nina and Patrick? This came firmly to mind and wouldn’t budge!

If Billie’s not quite right, forgive me; it’s my first attempt writing her.

This conversation wasn’t happening.

It was definitely not happening.

“Neens. Neens.”

Yes, that was Billie’s voice. Yes, this conversation was happening.

“Hm?” Nina tilts her head, trying not to blush or to let her face fall into her hands. So far, so good.

“Neens, you should forget about Doc Hottie and stick with Doc Five O’Clock Shadow.” Billie studies her sister closely, noticing the suddenly confused expression.

Yep, Nina’s thoughts had been elsewhere.

“Who?” Nina picks up the bottle of water, pouring them both a glass.

“You know that’s what I used to call Patrick. Look,” Billie turns more fully toward Nina, “you know what I think but I’ll say it again since you’ve spaced out. And,” she frowns at Nina, “don’t tell me you don’t do that.”

Nina opens her mouth but thinks better of what she was about to say.

“Doc Hottie kept secrets from you. Patrick doesn’t—”

“Are you forgetting Gus?”

“Who?” Billie frowns; seconds later, she’s shaking her head. “Look, Neens, if you want my advice ...”

Nina blankly stares at her sister. “I don’t need your advice.”

“Yes you do.” Billie picks up her glass. “Forget Doc Hottie and keep Patrick. Patrick doesn’t have any crazy wives who’ve vanished for months on end. He’s into you, Neens. Anyone can see that. Doc Hottie left.

“Patrick hasn’t.”

“He didn’t know I was coming back.”

“Did he ask?” Finally, Billie gulps a mouthful of water. “No,” she answers, watching Nina’s expression. “Neens, Patrick’s your Mick.”

“My what?”

Billie puts her glass down, leaning closer. “He’s your Mick. He loves you. You have a relationship with him. What did you have with Doc Hottie?” She pauses a second, waiting. “Nothing except a relationship that was in your head.”

“We—”

“What?” Nina squirms, rubbing her temples; the conversation was now full-steam ahead. “You should’ve fucked him and got him out of your system.”

“Billie!”

“Neens,” Billie peers at her. “You have something good with Patrick. Don’t blow it for Doc Hottie.” Her finger traces the rim of the glass. “You really should’ve exchanged bodily fluids with him.”

Nina closes her eyes briefly. She can’t believe this conversation.

“Did you keep that letter?”

“Nooo ...” Nina hunches her shoulders.

“Neens ...”

“... yes.”

“Neens, forget him. Burn the letter and keep Patrick.” Billie eyes her sister. “Neens, you know I’m right. He’s your Mick.” Billie looks up at the serving girl who, Nina’s certain, has heard every word of their conversation. “Croissants, please.”

The girl jots it down; Nina waves her hand, weakly. The girl nods and almost skips away from them to place the order.

“Neens, you know I’m right.” Billie takes another mouthful of water. “So, coming to tell me what you think about my dress?”

“Sure,” she finally, faintly, replies.

"Your Mick". I like that!
I'm so glad we're past Nina's Chris or Patrick deliberations though. I get the 'what ifs' playing on her mind, but she would've lost something fantastic with Patrick.

I like Billie's penchant for offering unsolicited advice, and I think referencing some of her past lines helped find her voice here:)

I'm very glad she realised that in the end.

Those lines have been very firmly in mind since this story popped into mind! I agree that they did.

Poor Nina. =P

... well; Billie had to be the one to say it, no-one else would. Except maybe Mick oddly enough.

Why Mick?
