Fic: ‘Never underestimate the monsters.’
Title: Never underestimate the monsters.
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Sometime after the 4th Doctor’s reign.
Summary: He keeps the scarf close ...

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

For all intents and purposes, this story takes place in ‘the real world’, where Doctor Who airs. I don’t usually write stories like this (and this, I know, will be the exception) but we can blame Neil Gaiman for it! He was chatting with Craig Ferguson on his show recently and mentioned hiding behind the sofa when Doctor Who was airing waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back and why you’d hide behind the sofa.
>> This was why I wrote Tuck your scarf in.

I wanted to see the little boy from that story grown up!

On the couch, she sits next to her father and snuggles close; his arm around her keeps her sitting beside him.

“It’s just telly, luv,” he chuckles but his arm stays where it is all the same.

Her eyes never move from the screen and her small hand grips his shirt. “What if they come out of the telly and grab me?”

“How would they do that?”

“What if they can see me sitting ‘ere?”

He tightens his arm around her and he can feel the sudden onslaught of closeness and warmth. “No monsters can take you from me, especially the monsters from this show.”

She peers up at him. “How’s that?”

“Because I know all their tricks, luv,” he smiles down at her. “I’ve been watchin’, and talkin’, about this show since I was a kid.”

Under his arm, he can feel her tension relax; he reaches down and when his hand rises, a long woolly length is in it. He always marvels at the show’s ability to enchant ... and never underestimates its ability for monsters to possibly come out of the telly.
