Fic: ‘What cannot be helped.’
Title: What cannot be helped.
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: (PG)
Time Period: Between AotC and RotS.
Summary: Neither can help what they do.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

Ostensibly an Obi-Wan and Padmé story, the ambiguity and languidness of the word flow could not be helped; it took on a life of its own like Dre—thinking interrupted.

After weeks of mud and slime, he cannot help but feather fingertips along her bare shoulder, the curve of her cheek, the line of her leg.

In the early hours when she sleeps, he cannot help but watch the soft breath that tickles his chest, how she curls into him, her arm slung over him.

After so many weeks and days of his being away, she cannot help but be constantly by his side, organising visits to the markets of the Lake Country, her hand on the small of his back when he is near.

When he is there, she cannot help her gaze sliding over to see if he is well, the quiet in which he sits, the silent check for injuries when he arrives.

Each time he leaves, it is more, and more, difficult. His hand strays, cupping her cheek, and her hand drifts from the small of his back as he walks away.

He's doing well to walk away so far. How long will that last; I wonder.

Who knows if it would last very long at all.

You paint such beautiful imagery with your words. So romantic. *sighs*

Thank you. This story still lingers in mind with its imagery.

While this is not my OTP,(obviously lol) I have commented before on your O/P. This one is like a poem. No surprise as you have that lyrical style of writing, a soft easy flow of words that say a lot in a short piece. I bet a Q&O piece would be lovely from you. *just kidding* Actually, I hope don't cause too much of a problem for you by popping in now and again. With your flist I mean. xx You are kind not to mind.

Thank you very, very kindly. This is the second time that my writing’s been described as ‘like a poem’ and now, as it did then, it’s caused much, much blushing. I honestly had no idea of that; I simply put words to paper (well, screen in this case) and hoped they didn’t fall flat!

It’s very lovely to know they didn’t!

Oh, goodness no! At least, not to my knowledge!

And I don’t mind your occasional popping in; it’s always great to hear how my Obi-Wan stands in someone else’s eyes!

I bet a Q&O piece would be lovely from you. *just kidding*
I know you’re kidding but, thank you! That’s always good to hear and lets me know that, if I did dabble in that pairing one day, at least one person would be reading!

I know that I don’t write Qui-Gon at all but I might slip him in a story soon.

++Obi-Wan is such a good character. Who couldn't love him!

I met someone once who absolutely detested him. Of course, the fact his girlfriend was crushing on Obi-Wan at the time might've been a motivating factor!

We'll have to see how it goes; no promises but fingers crossed!

No worries! It made me smile just that you said it!
