Fic: ‘Remaining true.’ (I of III)
Title: Remaining true.
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: (G)
Time Period: AotC.
Summary: She did not fail.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

Below are moments snatched from AotC, told from a certain (Obidala) point of view. It continues the journey that can be found in the below parts:
A thought, a gift
Upon a chance
Confront the disturbance you must (Part I of II)
Of Senators and disturbances (Part II of II; deleted scenes: Of Jedi and their padawans & Expect him to leave, they will).

These eventually lead to events in For each other alone.

Just a quick note: the tenses in this will probably be off.

Part I of III.

The explosion rocked the landing platform. The pilots were thrown to the ground, amidst the rubble. Bleeding and injured personnel lay still. One of the pilots threw aside their helmet and ran to the fallen Senator.

“Cordé?” Her hands were on either side of the Handmaiden’s face, willing her to speak. The Handmaiden smiled at the pilot.

“I ... failed you, m’lady.” Her head fell to one side and the pilot was draw back, and away, from the carnage.

“We have to go, Senator.”

The young woman threw one last glance at the girl on the platform before she followed the captain into a speeder that he flew away from the scene with great speed. Her mind awhirl, she collapsed against the backseat, Naboo security agents on either side. All she could hear as they sped away was the final words of the now-dead Handmaiden.

I ... failed you, m’lady

In the Chancellor’s office, she held her chin high, those words still echoing. “I need no protection,” she firmly insisted.

The eldest Jedi of those assembled levelled his green gaze upon her.

The Chancellor smiled, sympathetic, and walked around his desk toward her. “My dear Senator,” he began, “you must believe this is our only option after today’s incident on the landing pad.”

“I already have protection whom I trust.”

“Returned from a mission Obi-Wan and young Skywalker have,” the small green Jedi interrupted. “Protect the Senator they will,” he regarded the Chancellor gravely.

“That sounds the perfect solution,” the Chancellor clapped his hands together; a slight gesture but one that, the old Jedi noticed, was victorious.

“If I must,” she acquiesced grudgingly.

“Is it wise to allow Obi-Wan this assignment?”

Tap-tap-tap. “Remind him, it will, of his allegiances.”

“Have you seen his departure?”

The gimer stick paused. “See that event, I do not.” Tap-tap-tap. They continued their walk.

*sniffles* Poor, poor Corde. *shakes head* Oh boy; Yoda sure has a lot of faith in Obi!

I always felt sorry for Cordé but, at least her death wasn't in vain?

Oh boy; Yoda sure has a lot of faith in Obi!
Well, Obi-Wan is well-considered by the Jedi.

Oh Corde :( That scene was heartbreaking ♥

I love Yoda's faith in Obi-Wan, that it will remind him of his allegiances. I can't see that working!

Thank you. I wasn't quite certain I'd written that at all well.

... it might?

What's your game, Yoda? Do you really trust him, or is this a test of some sort. Is there something you see that you want him to see for himself? What are you playing at, little green one?!

OK, so I think it goes without saying that I am getting really into this story. You've now got me arguing one-sidedly with your version of fictional characters. :D

... I might answer those questions of yours as Yoda! ;P

Your enthusiasm for the story has been showing through each and every comment but, I must confess, I didn't expect to see one-sided arguing with Yoda!

Yeah, I got pretty into it. Good writing does that to me, I guess. ;)

I'm glad you found it so! Otherwise, I fear, this series of stories would've been very disappointing!
