Fic: ‘His hold would not break.’
Title: His hold would not break.
Fandom: Star Wars
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Between AotC and RotS.
Summary: In a shallow hollow, he remembers another night.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

After writing She would not die, I’ve had the continuation for it slowly building in the back of my mind.

This is the next part of that story.

His knees surrendered and he fell onto them, sand pooling around him. Bitter cold dulled the edges of his senses. He cradled her against him, reflexes having kicked in as he’d fallen. Through fatigued haze, he looked around them for shelter. A shallow hollow in a sand dune captured his attention. Mustering what strength could be found, he staggered to his feet and trudged through the sand toward it.

On closer inspection, it was nothing more than a wind-swept scoop; the shelter offered was meagre but against the chill night, it was better than allowing sand to be blown over his unconscious body. Here, he could sit and hold her close, willing life to continue, tenuous though it presently was.

She would not die.

His knees holding her body against him, arms wrapped about her, he leaned against the shifting sand behind; it slithered over his shoulder, through his hair, before, eventually, it settled. By then, his attention was in the sky. The stars glittered brightly, caught in a silver web upon the dark velveteen of night. His memory cast back, he remembered another starry night.

A perfumed, water-softened night unlike the current reality of dryness and sand. A night when one could have reached into the sky and plucked a star free. A night filled with an underlying profusion of scents from a nearby garden sneaking through an open window, of sticky wine and fingers, lips skimming skin.

“Don’t die,” he whispered, his eyes away from the sky and toward her. He coughed suddenly, sharp against the back of his throat. Once it passed, he gingerly smoothed her hair. With a sigh, he released the Force; it wasn’t needed to keep her in his arms. His hold would not break while they were in this hollow.

Oh Obi-Wan :( This is so sad!! And he's so resolved that Padme won't die. Beautiful write ♥ I love the memory flash back too.

I keep wondering if I should write more, to see if she does die!

Beautiful write ♥ I love the memory flash back too.
Thank you! The story feels like it's writing itself.

We can always hope she survives?

You're keeping us on the edge, I really love that. :) Poor Obi-Wan. If he could, he would 'force' her not to die.

The little flashback is definitely my favourite part of this little gem. ♥

Will Padme live?
I don't know if I've determined that for this story as yet!
