Fic: 'Terrifying yet amazing.'
Title: Terrifying yet amazing.
Fandom: Star Wars.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: Between AotC & RotS.
Summary: The news was unexpected.

Author's Note: The idea for this ‘fic has been playing around in the back of my head for a couple to a few weeks; I just never had the time to write it until now. It’s been written quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition of this term, check the F. A. Q.).

His hand rested on her stomach, his expression not one she could decipher. Tender disbelief, perhaps? Something else, something more? The uncertainty wasn’t healthy, she decided. Not in this condition.

“Your silence isn’t helping my nerves, Master Jedi,” she chided, playfully but her nervousness was heard underneath.

“This is ...”

“... amazing? Wonderful? Dreadful? Horrible? Terrifying?”

“Amazing,” he supplied and leaned closer, sensing the nervousness and fear almost come bubbling forth. Both hands cradled her face. “This is good news, Padmé,” he whispered against her lips. “I won’t lie to you and say I’m not concerned but this is good news.”

Her fingers lightly encircled one of his wrists, coming closer in the motion, and her lips brushed his. “It’ll be our secret.” Everything within her rebelled at the thought but with the galaxy as it was, it had be. Every Jedi was needed.

“For now,” he confirmed, his head tilted away from her face so he couldn’t be distracted. A hand slid into her hair and he gave up. His lips crushed her and her arm came up and circled his neck. He wanted nothing more than to press her against him but he refused the temptation; there was more to consider than his needs.

You don't know that yet! He could be even whinier because he grows up spoilt...

I’m going to assume you like the ‘fic since you’re engaging with fictional characters from the story in conversation.

That would be a fair assumption.

Thank you! I wasn’t certain if any of it was in character for their reactions but, I had a mantra for the writing of the ‘fic: What Would Obi Do? I’m glad it worked out!

Ooooh. Lovely interaction here between the two of them, and I do believe that this is how Obi-Wan would react to such news.

Very, very nicely done.

As with the above commenter, lealynnkenobi, there was a lot of relief upon reading these words – I’ve not written anything dealing with Obi-Wan in many months so I was nervous about whether it was

Very, very nicely done.
Thank you.

Aww! So sweet! I always like the idea of Obi-Wan being a father.

As do I. Since I first saw some people address the issue of Obi-Wan being a father, I’ve been intrigued by the idea.

After reading this, I find myself comparing it to the canon “I’m pregnant” scene and desperately thinking: Why oh why couldn’t this have been the way of it! A worthy response at such a moment, instead of Anakin’s “That is wonderful and epic and I must become dramatic and obsessively protective *cue Jazz hands!*

Thank you for starting the action after the announcement is made; it’s insinuation rather than being blatantly said brings the focus of the story purely to Obi-Wan’s reaction, which is at the heart of it. The piece is more powerful for the omission.

I add my voice to the masses to say that Obi-Wan is very much in character here. This is true in the dialogue especially. Along with his actions, it is all so him, his lines are to the point and rational but maintain a mature and proper display of genuine emotion.

I love the last line; it is such proof that he is the mature man she needs, not the insolent boy she gets.

Thanks to this comment, I won’t be able to watch that scene without picturing the *Jazz hands!* for a very long time.

You’re welcome. It felt more natural to start this after the announcement had been made.

And now I sigh in pure relief.

Due to having not written any Star Wars since last year with the last fanfic I’d written focusing on Yoda, I was nervous to approach Obi-Wan for this and the Valentine’s Day fanfic. I’m happy to hear that I did well with him.
