Dark clouds hover in the sky all day. Worried gazes watch them all day; pies were cooling and clothes drying. Dry grass whips small legs and bare feet trample it down. Scarves and jackets were wound and buttoned tightly. Playing was had but one pair of eyes watch the clouds closely.

Waiting.

There's a sigh, soft and heard by no one except its owner.

Afternoon tea. Dinner. Supper. Still the clouds remain stubborn. Bedtime comes and there's another sigh as eyes close. Maybe tomorrow, those clouds will open. Maybe.

The first snowflake wheels and spins to the ground just as a certain pair of eyes close.
