Fic: ‘Remembering them.’
Title: Remembering them.
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During The Angels Take Manhattan, near the end.
Summary: River remembers.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

This began life as a story for River and became a love letter to Amy and Rory during the writing. And I will probably write more stories (at least two more) to process everything I’m feeling.

Spoilers are given.

The TARDIS fades, disappearing from sight and he’s murmuring about the last page. She knows the Doctor and endings and how he doesn’t like them.

But now he’s running for a last page, an ending to a friendship.

Amy Pond.

Her mother.

His best friend.

She understands her mother. She knows her mother could not live without her father. It’s always been Amy and Rory.

Together. Never parted.

Forever.

She’s learned about love and trust and friendship and love from her parents. They weren’t traditional lessons, learned at a mother’s knee and father’s hand, but learned through knowing her parents, seeing them love each other even when they (Amy) didn’t know.

They loved and love and will love.

With each other, who they couldn’t live without.

Rory Arthur Williams and loving wife Amelia Williams.

That’s how history will remember them. Grown up and old and in love with each other.

Her parents, who she can, and will, never forget.

What a lovely fic!
Thank you!

This is so very true.
It is, isn't it? She never had those lessons traditionally but she did learn them, all the same.

Oh. This is beautiful. Just... gah, all the feelings.

I love that second-last section especially - they did get to raise her a little bit after all.

Wonderful. Thank you for this. ♥

They did and I'm very glad. It mightn't have been 'traditional' but they did get to raise her.

Wonderful. Thank you for this. ♥

That was lovely!
Thank you! I'm glad it was.

It makes me ache even more for River.
I'm happy to know I'm not alone in that; watching, and listening, to that end of the episode, you can hear what isn't said and what she doesn't get to say. I was aching for her at the end.

Loved it!
I'm so glad to hear that!

Yeah; glad I'm not the only one who is going to quite frankly ignore the Doctor's grief and focus on River's. To be blunt; Amy is just the latest companion to the Doctor. A special one; perhaps, but the evidence suggests no more so than Jamie, Sarah, Ace or Rose. But to River it's her parents - they may not have raised her traditionally; but they've been in her life for such a long time.

I'm not; I simply chose to write about River's grief.

They have and possibly still will be, somehow.
