Title: Honour, and forgiveness.
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: During A Town Called Mercy, near the end.
Summary: Honour might forgive but he will not.

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

The Gunslinger was the character who stood out for me and so a story for him.

“Are you sure? I could always take you back. Well,” he muses idly, “almost sure I could take you back. Maybe a holiday first. A beach and fluffy drinks with pink umbrellas, eh?”

“No,” the cyborg replies. “This is my home.”

“Bit dusty,” the Doctor crinkles his nose, looking around. As far as he can see, dirt. There was some greenery, yes, but mostly?

Dirt.

“You sure about that beach?” There would be a distinct change of colour sometimes. Pink. Blue. Yellow. Sand. Trees. Pink umbrellas.

“If I am not to self-destruct,” the cyborg intones, “then this will be my fate. To choose honour.”

The Doctor nods. “You’ll need this then,” he replies, unfastening the badge from his coat and pinning it on the half-man before him. “Marshall Kahler-Tec,” he smiles, sadly. “I can pop in sometimes,” he offers. “Make sure you’re not rusted, replace what needs replacing.”

The cyborg shakes his head. “There is no need.” He looks at the Doctor. “I will be honourable and take care of myself so I can watch over the town.”

The Doctor nods, his hands now behind his back. “Take care, Kahler-Tec,” he says, softly. “Don’t rust.”

The cyborg nods and turns; his blue eye reflects the sunlight. The Doctor follows the winding path into the town.

Unseen, a tear slides down the cheek of the solitary figure. “Honour will guide,” he whispers. “It may also forgive but I will not.”

Despite everything; never really felt sorry the Gunslinger till reading this fic. That's not fair!
