Fic: ‘Why should he?’
Title: Why should he?
Fandom: Doctor Who.
Rating: (G)
Time Period: The start of season 7.
Summary: Why should he?

Author's Note: This is quick ‘n’ dirty (for definition see the F. A. Q.).

It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’ve been busy working on something (it should be seen soon. Ish) and then the teaser trailer to Asylum of the Daleks came to my attention and I grinned.

Then I wrote this.

It builds on what’s seen in the first 14 seconds (which is all there is), describes and then stretches, I guess. It seems like a scene we’d actually see. Gosh, I know these characters too well!

There are no spoilers; this is speculative but if you don’t want to see this before the new series? Don’t; I understand what might not be spoilers for some may be spoilers for others. Come back when you’ve seen that episode and tell me how close I was!

This post has been formatted to avoid spoilers; wish to avoid them? Don’t read further.

Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks.

Two Daleks nearby, all three stand in a circle, surrounded. The hatch above them spins and opens.

Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks.

Amy looks around and up; Rory looks at the Doctor, his hands outstretched. The Doctor simply surveys the chanting audience, hands on his hips.

Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks.

Hundreds upon thousands upon hundred thousands of Dalek voices echo in the arena. He should be impressed. His enemies have gathered from across time and space, saying one thing, in unison. A cry for his compassion.

He has a question: why should he?

Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks.

Maybe he should ask them. Why should he save them when time and time again they’ve slaughtered, used his friends, faced him more than once, escaped more than once just so they could do it all again?

Why should he? Why should he save them so they can do it all again?

Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks.

“Why?”

Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks.

“Tell me why,” he demands, raising his voice above the din. “Why should I save you when all you’ve done is bring me pain, brought grief to my friends? Tell me why you want me to save you.

Why?”

Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks. Save the Daleks.

A hand is lain upon his shoulder, bringing him around to face his friends. His human friends.

“Because you’re you,” Amy quietly explains. “And if you don’t, you’re no better than them.”

He sighs; she’s right.

“You’re so Scottish.”

She smiles, faint but sure. “Come on. Let’s see what they want.”

This seems like something that could definitely happen. I am super excited to see how the actual episode plays out!

Thank you; I could easily see it playing out like this.

So am I, especially after seeing that trailer; it's made me so curious!

Ohhh, what a neat idea. And it sounds like something that would happen. Them bending to ask mercy of their greatest enemy (and most feared devil). His mercy is a horror to them, but they also understand survival.

*HUGS*

Thank you; I was just building off the trailer.

... Awesome.

So his last line makes me think of the fact that he's had two Scottish companions; both /very/ Scottish - but total opposites because of their time period.

Yeah; the trailer gave me mixed feelings.

The trailer may have but did the story?

It's hard to divorce the trailer from the story. The story is very well written; but because it's based on something that I have mixed feelings about (though having heard more about it since at least part of my reservations are gone), I'm not sure.
