“Your Majesty.”

She starts, turning to face him. “Now you are aware.”

The corners of his lips quirk, sadly, as he steps forward, away from the pillar’s shadow. His arms are folded, hidden in his outer robe. “A clever ruse, your Majesty.”

“One now broken, perhaps.” Fireworks burst, their brilliant colours dancing across each other’s face. She can see the shadows within his blue eyes that weren’t there before; the sorrow, the loss. Her teeth briefly catch her bottom lip; she does not move.

He shakes his head. “I think not, yo---”

“Padmé,” she interrupts. “Padmé, Master Jedi.”

An eyebrow arches, half hidden by dancing lights. “If I am to call you Padmé, your Majesty, you are to call me Obi-Wan.”

Fatigue hides in his words, concealed by his not knowing it’s there. She hears it, and a weary smile rises in response. “Obi-Wan,” she agrees. “We are friends, are we not?” She awaits his faint, answering nod. “Then friends stand not by titles.”

He looks up, a quiet amused snort as he does. “Friends do not deceive each other, Padmé.”

“I had to,” she comes closer, standing beside him, “consider the safety of my people. And myself,” she adds, almost ruefully; her safety, he can tell, she has never considered.

He looks from dying fireworks to the girl at his side. No, he corrects himself. Queen, not girl. “Then let us hope your people know the Queen who has given herself so wholly to them.”

She looks up, a sad smile curving her lips; she can hear the distance between them. She’d not noticed it until now. “Let us hope,” she softly repeats.

I think the thing I like about their conversation is that they're so... mature. And much is communicated in what they don't say as much as what they do say. Very different to how either of them talk to, say, Anakin.

Another lovely moment in their enigmatic relationship. <3

Thank you! It’s been interesting to see what comes next.

I’d not realised that but yes, it is very different from how they’d speak to Anakin.

Oh. Wow. This is simply beautiful. Very sad though; thinking of what Padme has had to give up; and no-one is the wiser (except for Obi; and the Jedi in general I suspect).

Maybe that's why they speak as they do?

lovely, sad, hopeful. You captured a lot in a short piece. Nice series. I really like how she knew Obi-Wan's pain even if it was subtle to see.

Thank you.

Nice series.
And thanks again; it surprised me by the way it's popped up.

I really liked this part; lovely and subtle.

It is a very nice 'in-between' piece, and flows nicely from the last one. :)

This relieves me to know; I wasn’t quite sure if it’d fit.
