The cloth sticks and she pulls it free from the droid’s --- R2 --- almost shiningly spotless outer casing.

“Show our appreciation,” she mutters. “This is revenge for the time I showed appreci---”

“Am I interrupting?”

Brown eyes meet blue when she looks up; her cheeks flush under the serious scrutiny of the younger Jedi. A flash of self-anger flashes in the depths of her eyes; she should not have been so foolish! She almost gave away ---!

“No,” she shakes her head, hiding her eyes under the suddenly convenient cowl of her gown. “You are not interrupting. Obi-Wan, am I correct?”

He crouches beside her, extending his hand. “... Padmé?” He asks as she accepts the proffered hand. “You must forgive my lapse in manners,” he says, the corner of his lips quirking upward. “Your names sound so similar and we had not the chance to know you better.”

She laughs, nodding slightly and releasing his hand. “I am Padmé,” she confirms. Then she drops the cloth she was holding and they both bend to pick it up.

“Allow me,” he offers and scoops the cloth with his long fingers.

The delicate rose in her cheeks brighten to flame as she accepts the cloth from him. “Thank you,” she mumbles and ducks her head, to hide the burning in her cheeks. When she looks up once more, he is still there, watching her bemusedly. “May I help you, sir Jedi?”

“Call me Obi-Wan,” he chuckles, “and no, I need no help. I came to offer mine when I heard you were to clean our friend.” He nods toward R2. “I wanted to thank him for our safety.” It is best, he decides, not to mention his need for solitude after the battle on Naboo simply to escape. And solitude, a stray thought occurs, was not to be found in the company of a pretty young Handmaiden for the Queen.

She pats R2’s domed head and shakes hers. “He is almost clean,” quite an unnecessary explanation, “and I will be finished soon. My Queen would be most displeased if she learned I had aid in my task.”

“We should not displease Her Majesty,” he agrees. “Until the next time our paths cross, Padmé.”

“Until then ... Obi-Wan.”

From the corridor, he half-turns; she is already once more intent upon her task at hand.

Heh. This is amusing. Very well written.

I do want to know her unfinished sentence about revenge at the beginning though...

Thank you.

And we may never know what that sentence refers to.

I love it. Very sweet and simple, with a tiny hint of something more down the line.

TPM!Padme/Obi-Wan is probably my favorite version of them, for some reason. It is just so under-explored and has such potential, so I am glad you've taken us back there briefly! :)

“Your names sound so similar

I love that you pointed this out, because that is VERY true, and as such, his unsure-ness as to her name is quite realistic.

Overall, this was very sweet and nicely leads into further exploration of the two. :)

It’s one of my favourite times for them but one I rarely, if ever, explore.

Very, VERY true! I didn’t think I’d be the only one who noticed how similar their names are!

Overall, this was very sweet and nicely leads into further exploration of the two. :)
Thank you. This felt like a good beginning for them, for this series of stories.
