Update: State of the Journal
In the park, a see-saw sits, perfectly balanced, until, suddenly, one end crashes into the sand underneath it. The end that’s hit the ground digs into the soft sand, causing spiggots of sandy dirt to fly outward and up, landing not far away from the see-saw and not outside the sand’s circumference.

Yes, I’m saying life is a see-saw.

On one end is my writing; on the other, life. I’m sitting in the centre of this see-saw and watching it swing this way and that. Sometimes, it balances but that’s a rare occurrence. I’m learning how to balance all aspects of my life and in 2006, real life plummeted its end to the sand and this journal unfortunately suffered. If it’s any indication, 2006 is noted on the calendar as ‘the Year of Illness and Injury’ and this journal caught the raw end of that deal. Writing slowed because it’s difficult to write when ill or injured and other, personal, events ran ragged over what it was that I wanted. I received private emails, asking if I were all right and whether the journal was going to close.

This State of the Journal address is to allay those fears.

I don’t intend to close this journal but 2007 is going to be ‘the Year of Balance’ where I can manage it. Each day is a measure of balance and how everything measures to that balance. There is a lot happening for me, personally, and I manage this journal and a non-fiction journal; from late November onward, I was caught in the other journal almost exclusively due to various events, including one that I covered as an independent writer. A lot of assessment has occurred within the past few months, especially during my annual hiatus. Decisions were made and acted upon.

There’s a lot that I desire to write and my inspiration isn’t flagging; in fact, it’s abundant and in some ways, overly so! My intent, for 2007, is to maintain balance in all areas of my life. I don’t expect this to be an easy task (especially as I glance at my 2007 ‘to do’ list) and all I’m going to ask is for patience if at times, as will happen, the see-saw tips and balance is lost.

To begin 2007, creatively, I’ll be fulfilling the requests that were made in November/December; I want to celebrate the first anniversary of this journal, belated as it may be!, and then, see how everything goes. The year is still young and let’s see where it goes.

All I can say is: woo balance! Looking forward to seeing whatever does crop up here this year.

A big 'woo!' for balance; I'm going to be measuring everything weekly and daily with loose plotting of each month, in order to maintain a semblance of balance (and sanity).

Looking forward to seeing whatever does crop up here this year.
So'm I!

Seriously, though, there's a wide range of writing that're in the works, including further Obidala, general Star Wars and some fiction from other sources (including Calvin & Hobbes).

It's all good. I can be patient; and just look forward to reading more when you get the opportunity to put more stuff up.

Thank you. There'll be some more coming soon.
